Every morning while I drink my coffee, the first thing I do is explore the internet. I call it my creative morning splurge. Sometimes it turns from one cup of coffee to an entire pot really quick; it gets out of hand, and I spend way too much time surfing the web looking at all the incredible pieces of work that are out there. It can be overwhelming, but at the same time it motivates and encourages me to step out of my comfort zone.
The work I've picked out to share today is by a design team from Madrid, Spain, Pipo & Astutto (have to represent at some point!) I discovered them almost two years ago, and I'll be honest, I've been stalking their work ever since... These guys just seem like the coolest; they are hands on, their work is fun, and they really know their stuff.
They've recently shared a project for an International Festival: Madrid En Danza (Madrid-based dance festival), all I could think of when I saw this was 'I wish I came up with that myself' - that's when you know it's good.
I've always loved collage and those who do it well; it's a true talent to make it look so effortless. Not only did Pipo & Astutto accomplish the art of collage in this project, they incorporated movement in their image and a very Avant-Garde approach to their typography, which only makes perfect sense given the theme. Like I mentioned earlier, they're very hands on, and share a lot of their process on their site, which is so great seeing as though most designers stick to their computers. I'm guilty of it too nowadays. It's just so easy to get wrapped up in technology, and it's something I'm trying to work on.
Apart from their design studio, they also run a little boutique with fun pieces of work at very reasonable prices. If that's not enough, they're soon opening doors to workshops on how to be hands on, from book-making to silk screen printing. These guys are design superheroes! So if anyone is in the Madrid area and is interested in learning more about it, email them here!
